Madison County jailer accused of insurance fraud sees case dismised

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn.- A Madison County jailer accused of insurance fraud this summer was set to have her trial begin Wednesday but her case has been dismissed.

Saundra Bundy was suspended without pay after being indicted for insurance fraud and theft in late June.

Her attorney, Michael Weinman said the D.A. filed to dismiss the case at the last minute, saying what they accused her of didn't fit the definition of insurance fraud under the Tennessee statute and they did not believe they could prove the case.

"The order of dismissal says that they may later decide to indict her on an attempted theft charge as opposed to the insurance fraud charge," said Bundy's attorney Michael Weinman.

Weinman said they have not heard from the sheriff's department as to whether she will be able to return to work.

WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News made calls to Sheriff John Mehr, however they were not returned Tuesday.
